The Heroes of Miami hit the streets this morning to combat cyberbullying by visiting Winston Park K8 and speaking with younger students about what they can do to promote an inclusive online community.
The Heroes arrived and met with the guidance counselor, Ms. Sampson, to discuss the community needs and chat about what makes Winston Park K8 unique. The Heroes then were able to tailor their presentation to fit the exact needs of the students that they met with.

A collection of just under forty middle school students participated in the event. The Heroes of Miami spoke with the group and discussed the dangers of online hate speech and trolling. Then, the group brainstormed ways that they can create positive images and captions which would make the online space more inclusive and friendly.
Next, the group used sidewalk chalk to mock up what those positive images and captions could look like. By identifying examples of positive social interactions, the students left the meeting with tangible ideas that they can use out in the real world.
The Heroes of Miami will be back in action this weekend at the Eco-Summit Event hosted by Dream in Green. Visit us at A.D. Barnes Park on Saturday April 2nd 2022 starting at 10:00am to learn more about our group and how you can become a Hero of Miami!
